Clergy from around the globe gathered together with
the Archbishop of Cologne,
Cardinal Meisner to welcome the youth to World Youth Day XX.

There were over 40,000 young people at the opening
mass for
World Youth Day inside the Rhine Enegie Stadium in Cologne.
100,000 young people stood outside watching the events on large screens.
Thousands more gathered in Dusseldorf and Bonn to mark the beginning of World
Youth Day XX.
